Props for Gideon

Bible Lesson: Gideon was afraid.  He was hiding in a cave grinding some grain so the enemy wouldn’t see the flour and take it from him.

Suddenly and angel was standing in front of him – just like that (snap your fingers).  He was shocked.  The angel told him that he was a brave warrior and God was with him.  Then he said he would deliver his people from their enemies.

But Gideon was still not sure and he asked for a sign.  He put a fleece on the grass and said he would believe if the grass was wet but the fleece wasn’t.  Then he wanted the fleece to be wet and the grass dry.

God didn’t get angry at Gideon.  It worked.  Gideon then knew that God would give him victory.

So he called together an army.  God told him to send most of the men home.  Only the soldiers that drank water bending over instead of kneeling down were chosen – only 300 men.

Gideon had them put lights in clay jars in one hand and a trumpet in the other.  That night they  began sneaking  up on the enemy.   Gideon  told them to do what he did .  He broke his jar and blew his trumpet.  They did the same thing and they yelled “For God and for Gideon.”

The enemy got confused and ran away.  Then everyone celebrated.  They sang and danced and praised God.

Puppet Show:  J = Joey Puppet T= Teacher

J  I am strong in the Lord and in the power of his might!

T YES!  With God’s help you are strong

J  Yesterday I was afraid.  Billy and my friends  came and said “Lets go out in the street.  I wouldn’t do it because my mom said not to go out into the street.

T  It’s good you didn’t do it!

J  Well everybody laughed at me.  That made me feel wierd.  But I wouldn’t do it.  They ran down the street but a huge truck came right at them.  They barely missed getting hit by that truck and then they got out of the street.

T  It is good to obey – our parents tell us to do things that help us.

J  Yes – my mom told me the story about Gideon and how he was afraid but he obeyed God and he and his army were saved.

T  When you obey your mom, you obey God!  (Give puppet kisses to those who want one.)
