Principles: John the Baptist got people ready because Jesus was coming – How can we get ready? Jesus wants you to know that He loves you and wants to come into your heart.

Props: Shirt and messy and clean heart; dove clear bowl and plastic people (get props)
Bible Lesson: Jesus knew that one of His friends (his cousin)named John was down by the river. He listened to His Father God and went down to the river. Jesus saw his cousin baptizing people.
Jesus told John that He wanted to be baptized so John baptized Him. He told him first he didn’t think He was good enough but Jesus knew he was. (Have a glass bowl with water and have them baptize plastic people)
When Jesus came up out of the water John saw the Holy Sprit come down like a dove fand Father God said “This is my Son Jesus who I love and and am pleased with Him.” (He was pleased because he obeyed His Father God.)
Right after that Jesus went to pray in the desert and they began teaching his people and healing them.
(In our church when you have asked Jesus in your heart you can also be baptized – just like Jesus was.)
Do you want to ask Jesus in your heart?
I am going to show you what it is like without Jesus.
Put on a dirty ragged shirt with a big red heart pinned to it with dirt all over it. Say this is what we look like without Jesus. When Jesus comes into our heart He cleans us up. What makes us dirty is sin and God’s Word says everyone has sinned. I am going to show up pictures of what sin is. ((Some one with angry face – someone who won’t clean up his room (does not obey) telling a lie ,taking a toy etc.))
But if we ask Jesus in our heart he will clean our heart and when we want to sin we can ask him to help us do what is good and He will do it. Tell them – “If anyone wants Jesus to come into your heart you can say this with me. Jesus I know you died on the cross for me and rose again. I am sorry for any bad things I have done. I want you to come into my life and into my heart.” Jesus came in because you asked him to.
Take off the ragged shirt and pin clean heart on yourself. Now you can ask Jesus to help you and He will. Show pictures of children obeying. show them a red heart with Jesus inside.

J: Yes I am – my mom took me to the zoo with my cousin and her mom. I like to be with my cousin Julie. He mom and my mom are sisters.
T: Did you see elephants and giraffs?
J: Yes and I saw funny monkeys. One of them made a face at me.
T: Did you and Julie have fun?
J: Yes but she had to keep telling me to hurry up so we didn’t loose our moms.
T: Yes our moms and dads take care of us so we need to listen and obey. That means we are obeying Jesus because that is what He wants us to do. (Sing Jesus loves me song and give a puppet kiss to those who want one
