DAVIDS GOD MADE DAVID – SHEPARD, CHOSEN, WARRIOR, KING

David was a man after God’s own Heart. He was Davids God. God used him to lead His People.

Davids God Bible Lesson Plan Day 1
Bible Verse 1 Samuel 16:1-13

Songs: Sing them in the middle of the lesson (like David did)

Principles: David took care of his sheep and God takes care of me.
Use the big book pictures from Concordia Publishing: (find Book)  http://www.christianbook.com/group/buzz · – count the sheep in the picture Show them a harp, water container, bow and arrows, and sling.

We are going to talk about God and David and sheep and giants AND YOU. Give them mirrors and talk about how God made them and they are special. He loves you very much. He came to live on earth with you and died and rose from the dead FOR YOU.

Someday when you grow up you will be farmers or doctors or builders or teachers or office workers. (show them pictures of workers – or have play workers. (find props)
Even before he grew up David took care of his sheep. He took them up hills to green grass and found a quiet stream where they could drink. (have them pretend to be sheep walking up the hill and drinking) At night he made sure no lions and bears got near them. When they were eating and it was quiet he played his harp and wrote songs to God.

He loved God. very much and sang lots of songs to God while he watched his sheep. We can sing songs too!

He also practiced with his bow and arrow and sling. He did it so much he got very good at it.

Puppet Show: L = Lamb and T = Teacher (lamb says a lot of baa’s in between)
L Hi boys and girls DO you know who I am? Well I am a very special lamb because David took care of me. When a lion or bear came he knocked them out “Pow, Pow, Pow”. We followed David every where and if we got lost he found us.

T You are special too. You have moms and Dads that take care of you. But you have someone who loves you even more –

It is Jesus. He takes good care of us.. If we are sick we ask Him and He heals us. He loves us so much He died but he didn’t stay dead – He rose. He did it for us.

(I give puppet kisses to the children who want one – Make sure you don’t  scare them .  I just brush them on the cheek with its mouth.  I have the puppet whisper in my ear and I tell them puppets like to give kisses, but only if you want one.)

Davids God Bible Lesson Plan Day 2
 
Bible Verse: 1 Samuel 16:1-13
 
Principles:  God sees our Heart.  It’s good to have a heart that loves God.
 
Songs: Jesus Loves Me, and to tune of Big and Wide “Big and Small, Big and Small God made all of us big or small” sing 2x (Find Songs)
 
Have two bags, brown bag with marshmallows and pretty bag with garbage ask them which one would you choose – they will pick the pretty bag – you don’t know what is on the inside and only God knows what is on the inside of you.

(Tell them the events of Samuel 16:1-13) – Samuel came to Bethlehem where Jesse and His sons lived. Only God and Samuel knew he was coming to choose a king.

Jesse had 9 sons and one of them was David. Eight of them were big and strong but God was looking at what was inside their heart so he didn’t choose them.  He chose David who was the youngest AND STRONG and God saw his heart and chose him.  He loved God. 

God gave David a special anointing to be king, but he had to wait a long time until he got more wise before he became a king.

Puppet Show: Peter and Teacher
T: Peter why do you have a Band-Aid on your head.
P: Will, I didn’t do what my; mom said and I went out in the street and got hit by a bicycle.
T: I am glad it wasn’t a car!
P: I did some really gross things today. I woke up grumpy and wouldn’t eat breakfast and hit my brother because he wanted my truck.  I kept fussing and then I was hungry so I stole a cookie.
T: Wow you were doing some gross things.
P: Yes, and my mom put me on her lap and said: “Peter I love yu very much but you are making me sad.  I wanted to take you guys to the Zoo today but you had a mean heart today and you would make it sad for all of us if we went.
T: Your mother was right Peter.
P: Yes but I was mad and that’s when I went in the street and got hit by a bicycle.
T:  did you mom put the Band-Aid on?
P: Yes and she was crying.  That’s when I talked to Jesus and asked Him to help me have a good attitude and stop being mean.  He did too, and I was better all day and now my mom is happy.
T: That’s wonderful Peter.

Bible Verse: 1 Samuel 17:15-50
Principles: Rely on God and He will give you the strength and wisdom you need.

Peter and Teacher
P: Boy am I glad I know Jesus.  I know He loves me and takes care of me.
T: What happened Peter?
P:Well, this big dark growled at me on the way to school every day and showed his teeth
T: What did you do?
P: At first I ran but then one day I stood and I said “ I have someone with me who loves ad protects me.  His name is Jesus.”
T: then what happened?
P:  His owner came up and told his dog to be quiet.  Then he said “Do you know Jesus?” and I said Yes and he takes care of me.  He wanted to know about Jesus so I told him and he asked Jesus into his heart.
T:  Wow – that’s wonderful Peter
