Props for Jesus Grew: (See picture at end of lesson) A scale, a yardstick; a suitcase; pictures of children from Baby to Age 12:, Children being obedient, the book from CPH Little Boy Jesus,
Bible Lesson for Jesus Grew: Weigh each child in the class and measure their height with a yard stick. Tell them that they have have a big job to do. Say ” You know what that big job is? It is to obey your mom and dad just like Jesus did.”
As you show pictures of children from 0 to 12 explain Jesus grew up just like this child. He obeyed His mom and dad and did what they said. (Also show and talk about pictures of children being obedient and read the book Little Boy Jesus.)
Tell them Jesus grew up in a town called Nazareth. It was a long way to Jerusalem and to get there they had to walk a long way.
One special day they all went the long way to worship at the temple in Jerusalem. Because it was a long trip so they took clothes with them. And all their relatives came too! (Have a suitcase and march with the kids around the room doing singsong of ” We’re going to Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Jerusalem, we’re going to Jerusalem and we are going to have fun! Were going to Jerusalem and I’m going to take some ” …..” Have the children supply the answer.)
IN three days they did get there and went into the Temple to Worship the Lord.
When it was time to go back, Joseph and Mary thought Jesus was with his cousins but he wasn’t – so they hurried back to Jerusalem. Finally they found him in the temple – teaching the grownups. Jesus was God so he knew more even than grownups. But even though he did, that did not make Him proud. He want back and lived with his parents and obeyed them. It is important to Obey our moms and dads- The bible says “Obey your parents” and Jesus always did what the Bible said to do.

J My Mom gave it to me because I’ve been obeying
T That’s great. What did you do to obey?
J Well I ate my peas, I closed the door when I went out. I helped my baby sister, I turned the TV off and I ate all my cereal, I
T (interrupts) Wow that is a lot of obeying!
J Well it says in God’s word to obey your parents and Jesus obeyed His parents so I decided I would obey my parents.
T You mean you didn’t do it just to get the toy Car.
J No but it sure was nice of mom to give it to me.
She loves you and Jesus loves you too. ( I give puppet kisses to the children who want one – Make sure you don’t scare them . I just brush them on the cheek with its mouth. I have the puppet whisper in my ear and I tell them puppets like to give kisses, but only if you want one.)
