Ruth was a true Friend to Naomi

Principles: Ruth was a kind and helpful friend.  She worked hard to help her friend.  We can be kind and helpful also.

Props:  You can find videos and pictures of wheat fields – Example: ; Paper feet; wheat stalk; grain; bread; friend bracelets; picture of helping; Book called What Can I do from Concordia Publishing  (find props)

Bible Lesson:  Naomi came from the Country of Israel where God ‘s people lived.  She and her husband and sons moved to a country called Moab.

But something very sad happened.  Her husband and her two sons died so Naomi decided to go back to Isreal  and she told her daughter in laws they could go back to their families. 

But Ruth loved Naomi and did not want to leave her.  They did not have money for horses so they walked back.  They walked and walked and walked. ( use paper feet  and have the children walk with you  following them. 

Fianally they got to Israel and went to Naomi’s old home.  It was empty – they needed food  so Ruth went out to the fields where they were harvesting grain, (explain and show pictures of grain  and the grain sheaf.)

  People who didn’t have food could go behind the reapers and pick up what had fallen. Ruth did this for many days and the kind farmer was a relative of Naomi’s and he liked Ruth very much.  He was not married so he married Ruth.  They had a baby and Naomi helped take care of the baby and she was VERY HAPPY!

You can be very happy also when you find a true friend.

T Wow you have on a new shirt.

J  Yes I like it so much – my grandma gave it to me.

T You must love your grandmother very much.

J  I do! i love to go to her house and help her pull weeds and dry dishes, and water her plants.

T  Wow you work really hard for her.

J  I love doing it because I love my grandma and I love being with her.  She told me that she loves working with me too.

T It makes you feel good on the inside when you are with people you love and you feel even better when you help them – right?

J Oh yes It is wonderful.    (give puppet kisses to those who want them,)
